CAD Solutions and Services for Surveyors, Engineers, Architects, and Facility Managers

Carlson Software

This is my first year switching over to Carlson from Eagle Point.. If not for [Carlson Software] this new job would have taken me a lot more time studying the program than performing the duties I get paid for.

Carlson Software - Carlson Civil Suite

Carlson specializes in CAD design software, field data collection, and machine control products for the land surveying, civil engineering, construction, and mining industries worldwide, providing one-source technology solutions from data collection to design to construction. Carlson Software's renowned dedication to customer service is unique in the industry.

Land Development Desktop (LDD) was an incredible Softdesk / Autodesk product that had quite the pedigree. For nearly 16 years, the LDD software was one of the Civil Engineering / Surveying design software leaders. In 2007, Autodesk retired Land Development Desktop to attempt to migrate customers to their model-based solutions of Civil 3D.

While these applications are indeed powerful, there are a number of drawbacks as well. Customers that purchased Civil 3D thinking that it is the next generation of Land Development Desktop were in for a rude awakening. The software requires a tremendous amount of up front configuration and training to be a usable product. All too often, we see customers that have invested tens of thousands of dollars on implementing the software to only revert to using their retired Land Desktop versions.

Carlson's software solutions are different in that they have the capabilities of Land Development Desktop but have the features of dynamic interaction. For example, if you modify an alignment, you can click a button and update the profile, cross sections, roadway, and even the lots. So, migrating to a model-based system is not necessary.

Additionally, Carlson's solutions allow you to choose AutoCAD based applications for a foundation OR to simply work on the IntelliCAD version (an AutoCAD clone) that ships with every product. Like AutoCAD, IntelliCAD works natively in the DWG format so there is no "conversion" or "save as" necessary unless you'd like to save to a prior DWG format.
